Braithwaite Sectional Water Tank
MILD STEEL SECTIONAL BRAITHWAITE
WATER TANK
This Braithwaite water
storage tank situated at a school in Weaverham,
Cheshire supplied water for both the hot and cold
systems but had not been treated for over 40 years.
Although the tank was not leaking it was severely
corroded inside contaminating the water it contained.
The built up layers of corrosion were removed
manually and then the internal surfaces were grit
blasted to provide an acceptable profile for the
new lining. Sturmac applied a 3mm thick laminate
to all internal areas, followed by a polyester
gel coat. The result was a complete success, returning
a product that is contaminant free and can be
easily cleaned and maintained.

Cylindrical Tank
Sturmac were asked to provide
a solution to this leaking, bitumen coated cylindrical
mixing tank, situated in Liverpool. Ordinarily
the preparation would be shot-blasting to remove
the existing coating and to provide a key for
the new fibreglass lining. Due to the characteristics
of bitumen this was not possible, instead a barrier
layer of a 2 pack water based epoxy primer was
applied to seal the bitumen and provide an acceptable
surface to fibreglass line.

Gas Oil / Diesel Bund
With the implementation of the
Environmental Agency’s new regulations concerning
secondary containment areas, Sturmac were commissioned
to ensure this bund area complied. The bund belonging
to a Cheshire based food manufacturing company
was leaking through the brickwork. With an impervious
fibreglass lining applied to all internal surfaces
conformity was assured.

Molasses / Animal Fat Bund
This newly constructed secondary
containment area, owned by an animal feeds manufacturer
located in Cheshire, was required to comply with
the Environmental Agency’s legislation regarding
such areas. Sturmac were contracted to provide
a completely leak-proof fibreglass lining.

Water Feature
Water Features historically
suffer from leakages, this one sited in public
gardens, North London was no exception. Sturmac
were engaged to rectify the problems. The area
was shot-blasted to remove the existing degraded
coating and 2 layers of fibreglass matting and
1 layer of fibreglass tissue were applied, followed
by a pigmented Gel Coat. This returned a seamless,
watertight lining.

Pressing Plant Fibreglass Repair
This pressing plant, sited in
Merseyside, was holed and badly leaking. Due to
this a slip hazard had been created to the floor
area alongside the equipment. By patch repairing
the holed sections using pre-fabricated fibreglass
strips adhered using bonding paste and overlaid
with 2 applications of fibreglass matting, the
equipment was repaired and the Health & Safety
issue negated.
